Three Lions captain Harry Kane recomended to stay in the middle “like a traditional striker”. – SoccerVoice
THE ULTIMATE FOOTBALL UPDATE
Former England international Glen Johnson says he would prefer Three Lions captain Harry Kane to stay in the middle “like a traditional striker”.
Kane frequently drops deep or drifts wide in order to participate in build-up play, unlike a classic No9 who typically remains high and central in most phases.
England beat Iran 6-2 in their opening game, but Kane was not among the scorers – though he did set up two goals.
Johnson, however, feels the centre-forward will be disappointed not to have found the back of the net himself
Speaking exclusively to Lord Ping, he said: “I would prefer it if Kane stayed in the middle like a traditional striker.
“Kane will feel disappointed that he hasn’t scored a goal in a game where his team has scored six.
“But, ultimately, I’m sure he’ll take the win.
“If I was his manager, I’d be saying to leave the wide play to the wingers, because if he gets a chance in between the posts, he’s going to score two out of three chances.
“I’m sure that’s where Kane would rather be too, but at the end of the day he’s had a good game and got himself two assists.”

One of Kane’s assists was for fellow forward Raheem Sterling, who scored his first World Cup goal – and Johnson feels the Chelsea star has matured into one of England’s main men.
“Sterling did need to improve in previous World Cups and I think he would agree,” he said.
“When Sterling broke onto the scene, he wasn’t technically that good in terms of how good of a player he is.
“Sterling was not scoring many goals, but now he has matured and knows where to make certain runs at certain times [and] now he’s a goal machine.
“Now he’s grown up, he should feel like he belongs on the World Cup stage compared to when he was young [and] he was in awe of certain characters around him, now he’s one of the main men.”
