Well, you can definitely see why Liverpool wanted Ben Doak at the club.
This is the 16-year-old’s first season on the Reds’ books following a summer move from Celtic.
It was also Julian Ward’s first summer at Liverpool in a director of football role and considering only £600,000 was spent on Doak [Echo], well it looks like the new man is certainly taking over from where Michael Edwards left off.
Edwards masterminded an abundance of exceptional transfer bargains for the Anfield outfit during his reign, whether that was incomings or outgoings.
And long term, Doak could prove a stunning piece of business by Ward at Liverpool, too.
That’s because the teenager lit up a UEFA Youth League victory over Rangers on Wednesday, scoring a sublime wonder goal and demonstrating his excellent skill and presence of mind earlier in the contest.
It was Doak who struck the winning goal in a thrilling 4-3 victory for Liverpool’s Under-19s and based on his heroics, it’s a matter of time before he climbs the ladder at Kirkby.
Of course, he isn’t going to be representing Jurgen Klopp’s senior side anytime soon.
But the Reds also have a brilliant reserve squad and it’ll be fascinating to see how Doak performs with them on a regular basis.
He has only managed seven minutes for the Under-21s so far [Soccerway] but going by his display yesterday, that’s probably about to change.
