Bryan Gil was perhaps the only positive for Tottenham Hotspur in midweek.
Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw by Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League and now Antonio Conte’s side need a result away to Marseille on the final gameweek to ensure their progress into the knockout phase.
Conte introduced Gil in the final quarter and although the 21-year-old Spaniard didn’t wind up being the hero, he certainly showed up some of his more experienced teammates.
It was an excellent cameo from the Tottenham youngster, signed by Fabio Paratici from Sevilla during the summer of 2021.
And as a result, Conte would be wise to consider starting him away to Bournemouth on Saturday.
Let’s face it, with Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison out injured, the Spain Under-21 international deserves a chance to impress Conte.
After all, he hasn’t played a single minute of Premier League football this season [Soccerway] and considering how poor the North Londoners have been since losing to Arsenal a month ago, what’s the downside of unleashing Gil?
He is a young and hungry player with a point to prove and Conte should give him the platform to let him prove it tomorrow afternoon.
As he demonstrated against Sporting, this is a footballer who can make things happen and if the Lilywhites drop more points, while Gil is rotting on the bench, then Conte only has himself to blame.
