Bryan Gil should be growing very disappointed at Tottenham Hotspur – and rightly so.
The Spanish winger, who turns 22 in February, is on the fringes of Antonio Conte’s plans at Spurs and the Italian manager’s actions on Saturday should convince Gil that he needs to leave North London.
Conte had to replace the injured Richarlison in a 2-0 victory over Everton last night.
Gil, an unused substitute in six Premier League games this season prior to last night, would’ve been an excellent replacement for the Brazilian.
But the Tottenham manager chose Yves Bissouma, a defensive midfielder.
Conte elected to change the Lilywhites’ formation rather than use the former Sevilla winger in what is a major indictment for his lack of trust in Gil, praised by his boss four weeks ago.
The North Londoners spent £21 million on the player during the summer of 2021 [The Guardian] and the fact that he’s only managed 85 minutes of Premier League football since then [Soccerway] speaks volumes.
Obviously he spent the second half of last season on loan at Valencia, but this was going to be his breakthrough campaign at Tottenham.
But Conte’s actions against Everton indicate that despite making the bench regularly, he’s nowhere near to actually being a big player for Spurs and once the January window opens, he ought to consider leaving.
For good, this time.
